Seria Tańczący z Naturą

An episode dedicated to the great snipe and our project:

“They belong to our strangest and most mysterious birds. In autumn, they fly from Poland to Africa like arrows, without stopping even for a moment. When they are back in spring, among the last remaining meadows naturally flooded by rivers they perform gala lekking in groups. Few people have seen these rituals, because they start at dawn, hidden amidst a sea of grass. And, above all – great snipes are very rare nowadays, as they lack suitable, appropriately natural habitats.

A team of researchers from Polish Society for Bird Protection work day and night to get to know representatives of this species and assure their conservation. They are followed by our camera, and – on the way – we learn how traditional horse and cattle pasturage contributes to the birds’ protection.

About the series

„Dancing with nature” set off to the wild paths of Polish nature for close encounters with the brown bear, lynx, beaver, bison, black grouse. In the river depths they spot rare freshwater mussels, listen out for the mysterious porpoise among sea waves, compete in digging burrows with ground squirrels, and from the curlew they learn how to play the flute. The guides of these expeditions and also the leaders of the title dance, well-known brothers and naturalists Grzegorz and Tomasz Kłosowski, invite to these meetings also professional researchers, so that we learn modern methods of tracking and active protection of wild animals, filming them in infrared, tracking by satellite, or by means of transmitters. Dancing with nature takes place in different climates – whether in the sun, in the snow or on storm waves, whether day or night, but always – in natural landscapes of Polish wetlands, riparian forests, last flowering steppes, and harsh mountain bogs orthickets and fallen trees of deep primeval forests."
