Releasing Curlews into Nature
On Friday, 11 July, we released a number of young Eurasian Curlews from our headstarting facility in Mazovia. The birds were returned to the breeding habitats from which their eggs had been collected—12 individuals in the Lower Bug Valley and another 10 at Pulwy Marsh. The release marks the culmination of a season that began with identifying breeding territories and nests, followed by incubation and the demanding headstarting process. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the young Curlews. We hope they will reach their wintering grounds safely and return in a few years to help strengthen local populations.
